Chapters frequently jump locations, days, and people. There seemed to be no goal even though one is stated in the first chapter, it seems like it is forgotten after that. Names like Henry, Hecate, etc which should not exist in a world that has its own mythology and history(especially when she goes into quite a bit of detail to explain it).Īt some point, 350 pages in, I thought "OOOOOOOHHH" and then wondered why the book had been about something else and so much superfluous information had been included. But, when you're prepared for something quite different, she still throws in bits of the familiar. Bracken does a nice job of just jumping in and dragging the reader with her. There is potential here for a great story. This read like the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland: Jolts, jerks, lack of continuity.
